What To Eat at Texas Roadhouse That’s Dietary-Restriction Friendly

I want you to be nice until it’s time to not be nice. *insert photo of Patrick Swayze* Oh, we’re not talking about that Roadhouse? Nevermind.

Let’s talk about steak, baby! Texas Roadhouse is one my family’s favorite restaurants. It’s frequently our go to for birthdays, Mothers & Fathers Day, and Veterans Day. Sometimes we go just because we want a great steak. Even though we’ve been going for there for several years, we just recently learned that they had a gluten-free menu.

The gluten-free menu states immediately that they are scratched based and cross contamination could occur. The menu is broken down into three sections: entrées, sides, and dinner salads. The entrées and dinner salads specify if they include the steakhouse’s sauce or other seasonings. Our waiter was well versed in how the gluten-free items were made & very helpful in answering Nikki’s questions. For example, he suggested that the broccoli & carrots be cooked in water instead of soy-based oils.

Nikki opted for 6 oz. sirloin, broccoli & carrots, and a plain baked potato. I ordered fries without seasoning & gave her some. Unfortunately she had to pass on their signature rolls. They also don’t have appetizers that she can eat. She enjoyed her meal and it didn’t cause her any problems later.

Doesn’t that look yummy?

What says “Happy Mother’s Day” better than takeout from your favorite steakhouse? (This is rhetorical, please do not comment below telling me otherwise)  Nikki decided to change it up a bit and went with steak fries. She ordered them plain as not to offend her digestive system. Since she was eating this at home, she had the luxury of adding seasoned salt. Hooray for flavor!

As you can gather from this entry, Texas Roadhouse has some gluten-, soy-, and dairy-free options. Sadly, if you have an allergy, this may not be the place for you. Be sure to ask your server questions specific to your needs. We went to a location in Jacksonville, FL and they did cook their food in soy. Keep in mind that all locations will likely vary from location to location.

I’m introducing a new section into my blog called NSFDC (Not Safe for Dietary-Conscious) where I post pictures of the food that I eat and show you food porn. This term will also be a reminder for you to keep on scrolling if you don’t want to be jealous.

  1. There are original murals on the walls of each eatery, created specifically to reflect the local community, and every mural is approved by chain founder Kent Taylor before going up. We are in Texas Roadhouse for Ohio State University!

    • I thought the murals were probably by area, but I hadn’t really thought about how it worked. That’s pretty cool that the founder approves each one. Thanks for the info! 🙂
