Chili’s is more than baby back ribs (barbecue sauce)| Dietary Restriction Friendly Items

“I want my baby back, baby back, baby back ribs, CHIL-I’S BABY BACK RIBS.”

Fat Bastard Baby Back Ribs
You’re welcome.

You’re welcome for getting that jingle stuck in your head.

That commercial came out years ago and it’s still the jingle I hear whenever I hear the name Chili’s.

We’ve discovered that Chili’s has a Allergen/Vegetarian menu on their website. It’s very conveniently divided by allergen horizontally & menu items vertically. It’s further divided by menu items such as meals, sides, salads, and appetizers. It’s very easy to follow and clear which menu items contain which allergens. At the bottom of the last page, it does state possible cross-contact risk as fried items are cooked in the same fryers as regular menu items. The statement goes on to say:  “Though we have highlighted fried items which are at increased risk for cross- contact with other ingredients (allergens and meat), normal kitchen operations involve shared cooking equipment and preparation areas– contributing to the possiblity of foods coming into contact with other foods. Due to these **VEGETARIAN (V) denotes items that DO NOT contain beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or ingredients derived from animals (e.g. gelatin, chicken broth, animal rennet) but may contain eggs or milk . Note: Several of Chili’s cheeses are not marked as vegetarian due to the use of animal rennet.”

Since finding out about the wide array of dietary restriction friendly menu options at Chili’s, we’ve ordered from them several times. They do not offer a gluten-free bun option, though they offer grass fed, turkey, and black bean patties. Nikki has tried the grass fed patty (no bun, but with lettuce). Her usual order is the half rack of Original BBQ Ribs (FYI: the house sauce contains soy) and fries. Nikki was a fan of both the burger and ribs and really likes the fries.

Because of the sweet two-for-$20 offer, I often order the bacon burger with cheese and fries. BTW, their tortilla chips are yummy (this deal comes with an appetizer)!

  1. I’m just here for the food porn Samantha 😉 but seriously, I’m so glad I don’t have allergies and the way Chili’s have laid out their online menu sounds interesting and should help a lot trying to find what you’re looking for

    • LOL, Michelle that’s why I try to include #foodporn in every restaurant blog. 😀 Chili’s menu is so helpful. Hopefully other restaurants (especially large chains like Chili’s) incorporate menus like theirs.

  2. I love how more and more restaurants are incorporating a variety of menus. I worked at Chilis for YEARS lol so I rarely go, but it is nice to see they have made some dietary changes.

    • It’s really great to see more & more places be accommodating of various diets. I’m glad to see that a restaurant with so many locations can incorporate many menu items like this. 🙂

  3. I had no idea Chili’s had all that. But then again it’s been years since I’ve been there. Sounds like they sure came along way since the last time I ate there. Looks like I need to pay a visit soon and see for myself!

    • It had been a really long time since we’d been there. I think my sister googled “gluten-free restaurants in Charlotte” and Chili’s came up. The menu is so helpful too since it shows which menu items contain possible allergens. More restaurants should offer menus with that info!

    • It’s great that so many establishments are working to include customers with various dietary restrictions! It looks like the closest Godfather’s Pizza is in SC (the location is about 30 minutes from me). I’ll have to do some blog research the next time I’m in the area. 🙂

  4. I didn’t know they had this kind of menu!! It so awesome more now I’m trying to get really healthier. And the food looks so tasty.

  5. I have yet to go to Smashburger but it sounds like such a good eating place. Chili’s is a good place to go. Something for everybody on the menu including vegetarians and people who are allergic to gluten. I used to run there when I thought I was.

    • We really enjoyed Smashburger. It’s great that Chili’s offers so many options for a variety of diets & having many locations makes it convenient too.

    • Luci, my sister was very surprised that the ribs (with the original sauce) fit her dietary needs. She loves ribs & is so happy she can continue eating them! 🙂

  6. We have a chili’s here in town, and I never think to eat there bc I’m not a huge fan of chain restaurants. BUT, you did a great job, and I may have to go try a burger!

  7. I’ve never been to Chilli’s but the dishes on their menu look and sound so good!! Now I’m totally hungry right now, lol! Love this post!

  8. Before this article had no idea Chili’s had all that. But then again it’s been years since I’ve been there. Sounds like they sure came along way since the last time I ate there. Looks like I need to pay a visit soon and see for myself!

  9. Never been but thanks for writing about it. I am looking forward to my trip there with my friend who can only eat GF:D
