Dietary Restriction Friendly Pasta Dishes (GF, SF, DF)

Having dietary restrictions can limit a variety of foods that you can eat. It can be time consuming to go through each ingredient from various brands. A brand may have gluten-free options, but still contain soy or diary. You keep searching until you find foods that meet all your checkmarks. We’ve come to learn that there are usually ways to make dietary restriction friendly versions of your favorite dishes, even pasta dishes. *insert praise hands emoji*

We’ve made several pasta dishes before: Fettuccine Alfredopenne pasta, and this pasta meal.

As if you can’t tell, we really love Italian food. Below are some of our recommendations. There’s also some #foodporn.

Noodles and Sauces

Spaghetti and lasagna are common meals that are delicious and perfect when you need to serve multiple people. You can also make versions with spaghetti squash or eggplant. If you want traditional noodles, we recommend Mueller’s Gluten-Free Spaghetti or DeBoles Gluten Free Rice Spaghetti . Both brands are gluten-, dairy-, and soy-free. As you can probably gather, the DeBoles noodles are made with rice flour.

Note: Mueller’s pasta is made processed in a facility that uses soy, egg, and wheat.

Nikki has discovered that organic pasta sauce seems to be better for her heartburn. We frequently use Nature’s Place Organic Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce or GreenWise Organic Tomato Basil Sauce. Both of these are store brands, but are available online.

If you’re interested in suggested recipes, try this Classic Lasagna recipe from DeBoles and Easy Weeknight Spaghetti from Mueller’s.

Spaghetti
Add Schar’s Italian Crostini’s to replace rolls.

Pesto Fettuccine Alfredo
My original post is about traditional Fettuccine Alfredo. This version is with a yummy pesto sauce.

This lasagna was made with Follow Your Heart cheese.

  1. How is it that one single photo can make me hungry and I’ve just had breakfast too 😀 Pasta is a big thing for us too. It’s such an easy meal to put together and it’s great to know there are a whole bunch of “dietary friendly” meals options out there.

  2. I would have to try some of these out myself! I’ve been trying to eat less meat for the environment, and finding food that is dairy free is kind of a challenge but not impossible. Is that parmesan sprinkled on the spaghetti dairy friendly, too?

  3. These are great to have on hand! We aren’t gluten free but I have some friends who are and always could use new recipes to share with them!

  4. Wow, those are really delicious recipe and looks so easy to prepare. I will definitely try to make this for my husband and kids.

  5. I have dietafy reatrictions and I agree that it can be time consuming when choosing a brand thatwould be perfect for me. This is my first time hearing mueller and would love to try it.

  6. These are great alternatives ! We also love Italian food, although we don’t have dietary restrictions, we are blessed to have family in Italy with a Farm. Every summer we go there and come back with several gallons of 100% natural and organic home-pressed olive oil, and several gallons of homemade tomato preserve done by my husband’s aunt. I never have to buy ready-made sauces!

  7. I really like this post, I’ve been suffering with a bout of bloating of late and i think that is due to Gluten, so going GF for a bit, a shame as I am nuts about pasta.

  8. This post is a great help to anyone who has dietary restrictions and enjoy pasta! You did a great job with all the dishes you highlighted!

  9. My family just recently started substituting spaghetti squash for pasta in our spaghetti but we haven’t used eggplant. I’m trying to get rid of those extra starches in our diet and you have some great recommendations here.

  10. These dishes looks so healthy and tasty. I do not have dietary restrictions, but I’m still going to try these yummy dishes at home. I’ll also share the recipes with my friends who are dealing with dietary restrictions.

  11. I have started restricting my food intake due to health reasons. It’s been a journey because my faves I can’t eat anymore but it’s been the best outcome. I do love pasta and there are so many pasta dishes like the one you have that will do wonders for solo or numerous mouths

    • It can definitely be a challenge to find options when you have restrictions. I like to share the options we like to help others who may be in similar situations.
